A one-week, technically-focused programme from 12th - 16th Jan 2026, providing hands-on training in transistor fabrication and analysis within a clean room environment.

Please complete this form to apply for the practical Cleanroom Skills Training Course, which will take place at the University of Cambridge in January 2026. Applications will be reviewed, and places will be confirmed in November 2025.

This marks the 4th edition of the Royce Cleanroom Training Course, which has been successfully delivered by the Bragg Centre in Leeds and CISM at Swansea in previous years.

The one-week, technically-focused programme will provide attendees with hands-on training in transistor fabrication and analysis within a state-of-the-art nanotechnology cleanroom. This year, participants will have the unique opportunity to conduct their practical training in the new Cleanroom facility at the Ray Dolby Centre. In addition to practical training, participants will benefit from a series of lectures delivered by leading researchers from academia and industry. These sessions will cover essential technical know-how and provide an overview of the UK semiconductor industry, equipping attendees with the skills and knowledge needed to work in advanced nanotechnology cleanrooms.

This unique opportunity is designed for both industrial and academic professionals, offering hands-on experience in cleanroom fabrication and semiconductor device processing. The course is particularly valuable for scientists and engineers from a variety of disciplines who wish to gain practical insights into nanofabrication techniques. It is especially relevant for those working on cutting-edge technologies such as spintronics or bioelectronics, where advanced fabrication methods play a crucial role in device development.

The application window will close at 23:59 on Friday 30th October 2025. If we receive a large volume of applications, we may close before this date. We encourage early applications.

This course will cost £400+VAT for academic/RTO attendees; £800+VAT for industry attendees.

The course is a collaboration between the University of Cambridge, University of Leeds, Swansea University and CS Connected and is supported by the Henry Royce Institute. The training will be hosted by CORDE - Collaborative R&D Environment for Physics. Part of the world-renowned Cavendish Laboratory and open to both university and industry researchers, CORDE provides access to equipment, resources, and expertise unique to Cambridge.
