RPS London Region: N London Monthly Meeting ONLINE
Event Information
About this Event
Tonight's Keynote presentation will be given by Gordana Johnson and will be her images of MAMA NEGRA - the biggest festival in Ecuador, which takes place at the end of September - a symbiosis of Catholicism, indigenous and African cultures.
Gordana goes on to explain that in 2019 a few WHITE New Yorkers claimed that Mama Negra was a racist event. Afro-Ecuadorians replied that there was nothing derogatory or degrading for black people in the celebration. On the contrary, Afro-Ecuadorians are flattered that a black woman is a symbol of Latacunga where hardly any black people live.
Following Gordana's presentation we will have our usual picture sharing from the attendees. Up to five images of any style or genre: something you are proud of, or would like advice on, or merely wish to share... A dropbox link will be issued in due course.
