Description

The RS Thomas Literary Festival , celebrating the poetry of Welsh poet/priest RSThomas has been held annually in Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula since 2013.

The festival attracts a loyal and growing group of national and international aficionados of Thomas and his wife, the artist ME Eldridge.

This year the Festival will travel to Bangor Cathedral for its final event on Sunday 1 July at 2.30pm.

Entitled RS Thomas for a New Generation it showcases new works all inspired by Thomas’s poetry including Bangor based emerging composer Ellen Davies, Philadelphia composer Rob Moran and poet Owen Lowery, a British Judo champion who suffered a spinal injury at the age of 18, leaving him paralysed from the shoulders down.

Ellen’s chamber work “Pilgrimages” will be premiered by Ensemble Cymru with Anne Denholm the Royal Harpist. Codirected by Susan Fogarty the founder of the RS Thomas & ME Eldridge Society, who will also read Thomas poem “The Other” accompanied by Clarinettist Sioned Eleri Roberts, this will be a tour de force of music, spoken word and soundscape with the voice of the National Poet of Wales Ifor ap Glyn reading the three poems by Thomas which inspired Ellen.
