Event description

Description

Do we need a fundamentally new approach to urban sound planning?

Brighton and Hove has been at the centre, globally, of new work challenging conventional approaches to urban planning and noise. Bold, innovative projects including the ground-breaking arts based intervention West Street Story have put Brighton and Hove at the heart of the emerging new science of ‘Soundscape’.

Join us for an evening filled with interactive, provocative and creative explorations of how sound connects us through arts, culture and urban sound planning featuring:

  • Acclaimed TED speaker on the power of sound Julian Treasure, The Sound Agency

  • Body language expert exploring how we react to sound Dr Harry Witchel, Brighton and Sussex Medical School

  • Arts and culture expert, White Night curator Donna Close, University of Brighton / AMP Culture

  • Architect and urban soundscape designer Luca Dellatore, Anderson Acoustics

  • Placemaking and urban design expert Dr Cara Courage

  • Soundscape expert and researcher, Lisa Lavia, Sounding Brighton

  • Soundscape, engagement, and local government, Matt Easteal, Brighton & Hove City Council

and more …

During the evening, we’ll explore:

1) When does sound become noise?

2) Can we really have it all - vibrant, exciting 24/7 cities, yet places where we can still have peace and relaxation when and where we want it? How is this determined? Who decides?

3) How do we promote and manage new co-creation models with researchers, artists, designers, and residents?

Book your ticket at the top of this page to join in the discussion. Any questions, please email Lisa Lavia FRSA: lisa.lavia@noise-abatement.org

Kindly co-sponsored by Anderson Acoustics, Noise Abatement Society, Driftwood Productions
