RSA Islington Christmas Gathering: Educating For Tomorrow
Mon 12 December 2016, 18:30 – 20:30 GMT
Come and join us for a thought-provoking, convivial evening of discussion and festive refreshments.
What would our schools look like if we educated for tomorrow instead of today? How does that help us decide which education policy initiatives to support and oppose?
Numerous commentators are alerting us that the economy of tomorrow will look very different from today’s. So different that ‘all our intuitions will be wrong’. How, then, do we educate today’s children for a tomorrow we can barely imagine?
Already our educators are balancing the demand for high rankings in the international PISA tests with the advocacy of Ken Robinson for more embodied creativity. And any new approach needs to be translated into a feasible, deliverable national programme, when there is no national consensus on the very purpose of education.
In this facilitated discussion we’ll explore:
The world of work tomorrow;
Fundamentally different views of the purpose of education;
How we can educate our children when all our intuitions will be wrong;
How to identify which policy initiatives move education in a healthy direction and which do not.
