Event description

Description

Newcastle Encounter takes place on a Wednesday of every month. This Autumn, join us for a one-off special September Newcastle Network Conference where we will hear from leading RSA staff on Universal Basic Income, community banking and the Self-Managing working teams.

The event will be free with some refreshments provided, and all are welcome. Attendees are free to drop in for part of the evening or to stay for all of the talks. Find out more below, and follow the ‘Book Now’ link to register your place.

Jamie Cooke, Universal Basic Income in Scotland
Jamie Cooke, the Head of RSA Scotland, an area of the UK which has led the way in piloting many UBI trials. Jamie will outline the principles of Universal Basic Income, describe his work and discuss the
findings from the recent report exploring how Scotland can move towards such a system by examining at how effective, desirable, and feasible a basic income could be.

Ruth Hannan - Transforming Social Care
There is little disagreement that the current model of social care doesn’t enable or provide for fulfilled lives for anyone, and the call for change in social care is growing stronger. Join us to hear from Ruth, and her argument that risk-taking and self-management presents an opportunity to put the power back in the hands of those who really need it: the recipients of care and frontline care workers.

Dr Gemma Bone Dodds, Community banking in the North East
What is community banking? What are the benefits of it and why would it be good for the people of North East? Next, we will hear from Dr Gemma Bone Dodds, author of the recent RSA Report “A Bank for the North East’, who will present the report findings and explain why we need a truly local bank for the people and businesses of the North East, supported by the Community Savings Bank Association (CSBA).

Jim Beirne and Lucy Winskill – developments in the Live Theatre
Finally, Jim Beirne, CEO of Live Theatre and Lucy Winskill, the Chair of Trustees will describe the development of Live Theatre and discuss its role in the cultural regeneration of the region.
