Mental ill health affects more than 1 in 4 people at any one time

There is a growing recognition that good mental health underpins everything we do, how we think, feel, act and behave. Therefore positive mental wellbeing is very important for overall health, it is a critical ingredient in making healthy lifestyle choices. In spite of this, mental health and wellbeing is often overlooked or treated with less imortance than physical health issues and services. But if we are to reduce the financial burden of avoidable 'lifestyle' illnesses then mental health and wellbeing must be a consideration.

The aim of this qualification is to provide candidates with a knowledge and understanding of the principles of mental wellbeing, the effect of mental wellbeing on the individual and community, and how mental wellbeing can be maintained or improved.

The RSPH mental health and wellbeing qualification offers an understanding of attitudes and beliefs about mental health and wellbeing. It will enable learners will explore theoretical models used to describe mental health and wellbeing and the strategies that may be used to promote wellbeing of the people in their community.

Outome 1: Know how mental wellbeing affects individuals and communities. All about identifying current concepts of mental wellbeing and the importance of mental wellbeing to the individual and how the community can affect and be affected by mental wellbeing.

Outcome 2: Know how mental wellbeing can be improved and maintained. All about identifying the evidence base for mental wellbeing Lookinmg at how to promote mental wellbeing and look at practical ways to improve menatl wellbeing in everyday life.
