Event description
Runaways. Goblins. Fairies. Water Pistols...?!! Look out Liverpool - it’s the RUBBISH Shakespeare Company!

About this Event

Athens. The past. Four idiots enter wearing bed sheets for togas. With rubbish props, silly wigs and a ladder, they attempt to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream in an hour. And fail. Miserably. With hilarious results!

Described as ‘like Horrible Histories but funnier’ (Primary Times), this Dream is an anarchic, slapstick, all-ages comedy that promises belly laughs for the whole family. Expect bubble guns, mop heads, chair legs, cardboard cutout cast members, lightsabers and a frankly pitiful attempt at ‘magic!’

Perfect as an introduction to Shakespeare or for any Shakespeare enthusiast. They’ll make a mess of this Dream, even if it bruises them.

This is a special performance as part of Liverpool John Moore’s University: Drama Department’s 25th Anniversary Festival; the institution the company graduated from.

Age Guidance: 4-104!

Location: Entrance on Hope Street. Next door to Liverpool Arts Bar

Praise for Rubbish Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

‘There are bed sheet togas, water pistols, lightsabers, scary wigs and mop head lion’s manes. It’s pure rubbish… and you’ll love every minute’ ★★★★★ Wee Review

‘Great writing, inventive improv, attention grabbing energy, superb delivery and a sense of comic timing that bordered on the genius.  Go and see it – it’s one of those rare pieces of theatre with something for everyone’ ★★★★★ Fringe Review

‘The four actors are just brilliant. This had both my little critic and I in stitches’ ★★★★ One 4 Review

‘The story was easy to follow, full of energy and thrown together with a lot of mischief. It was the perfect treat for all the family’ ★★★★ North West End

‘It may be one of Shakespeare’s finest comedies, but the Rubbish Shakespeare Comedy arguably surpasses even the great playwright himself’ ★★★★ Families Edinburgh Magazine

This show should be renamed Utterly Brilliant Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Like Horrible Histories but funnier' Primary Times

‘These performers had their young audience eating out of the palms of their hands’ Number 9

‘I like to think that the Rubbish Shakespeare Company's performances may be closer to the spirit of the plays than some of the more reverent modern productions’ Buxton Fringe

Over the course of the performance, the children moved forward at least two metres into the stage area, as they became increasingly excited by Shakespeare’s world’ Northern Review
