How do we build on the UK farming’s reductions in antibiotic use? Has stewardship helped stem the emergence of resistance on farms and in the food chain? And what other threats or opportunities will affect animal health and welfare, food safety and our responsible use of medicines within future supply chains?

We are pleased to announce that the Responsible Use of Medicines in Agriculture (RUMA) Alliance’s next biennial conference, ‘Building on Success’, will be held on 29 October 2019 at the J. Sainsbury’s Conference Centre, Holborn, London.

With top speakers from Government, veterinary medicine and the global arena, the conference will take stock of the progress made in antibiotic stewardship over the past two years, whether the industry in on track to achieve targets, and what the future landscape of responsible use could look like in a country split over Brexit and a world split over sustainable food policies.

Joining the Chief Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss, Chair of the Food Standards Agency Heather Hancock, Head of Antimicrobial Resistance at the VMD, Dr Kitty Healey, and President of the British Veterinary Association Dr Simon Doherty, will be keynote speaker, Maryn McKenna, an independent journalist from the USA specialising in public health and food policy – and a vocal critic of the global food industry. Also on the podium we have Julie Fitzpatrick from the Moredun Research Institute, Duncan Sinclair from the British Retail Consortium, Sue Lockhart from Red Tractor and Stuart Roberts from the NFU.

The conference format will be interactive, with ample opportunity for delegates to engage in Q&A sessions with speakers and panellists. The provisional programme is available on the RUMA website here

The conference will be of interest to anyone interested in food policy and food safety, animal health and welfare, and veterinary and human medicine – for example farmers, veterinary surgeons, SQPs (Suitably Qualified Persons), food processors, quality standard managers, politicians, regulators, food retailers, consumer groups, animal health companies and the media.

Early bird tickets (available until 31 August 2019) cost £175 (no VAT). From 1 September, tickets will cost £200. Please note tickets cannot be cancelled and refunded after Friday 18 October 2019.

To register your attendance please apply via this Eventbrite page. After booking your ticket for the conference please check your SPAM or JUNK mail, as sometimes confirmation emails of the purchase from Eventbrite may be deposited there.
