In 1975, Rumpole of the Bailey appeared on BBC television: a perpetual defender came into being, concerned only with protecting our ancient freedoms and the presumption of innocence. Ready to challenge judges, police officers and expert witnesses, Rumpole woos the jury, coaxing them into finding his clients not guilty.

Fortified with Château Thames Embankment, and overseen by She Who Must Be Obeyed, Rumpole devotes his time to keeping errant humanity out of prison. We follow Rumpole's adventures through readings from John Mortimer's accounts.

Meet outside the Magpie and Stump on Old Bailey, opposite the Central Criminal Court; the nearest station is St Paul's Underground Station.

The walk will take approximately 2 hours, and finishes at the Inner Temple, near Blackfriars and Temple Stations.
