Event description

Description

Are you a new runner who has achieved the 5k milestone and then the 10k milestone, and is now ready to take on an even bigger challenge?

Our Run4Lifers have done this and have requested that we help them to run the Bristol Half Marathon in September. These long runs form part of a running schedule that has been deliberately kept simple to help you achieve the 13.1 miles sensibly. You do need to be able to commit to running 3 times a week: the long run, the medium distance run and the Interval session, you do not have to join us for all of these, but they will be what gets you to the Start line. Our plan will take you all the way up to the distance, as we believe that a long run of 10 miles which you then need to add another 3.1 miles onto on the day doesn't make the event as enjoyable as it could be. Every participant will receive a copy of the schedule.

****You do need to be able to run 10k comfortably to start this plan.

*****There will be 10 weekly long runs which steadily increase the distance to ensure that you comforrtably get there before the day. Starting the weekend on 9th July with a just over 10k run, the log runs will increase approximately 10-13% weekly from there.

Runs will be on a Sunday at 8.30/ 9am but the leader will discuss and confirm with the group the location and time. The runs will be led by our team of leaders, depending on who is available on the day. Runs will last from 1.5 hours upwards, increasing with the length of the run - hence the early start, so that you can still get on with your day. You will also be a part of our friendly Run4Life group where you will be able to meet other runners who are also planning on running the distance. Ideally you will arrange to meet with others for your interval session once a week or you could join one of the local clubs ie Bristol & West AC who run interval sessions for different abilities.

Locations will be Eastville Park, St George Park, Bristol and Bath Railway Path and the Harbourside, other location suggestions will also be welcomed and the meeting points agreed with the group.

To join in sign up today through here, you will then be invited to join the group (or request to join and then you will be accepted once your registration has come through). Then go to the events in the group and say which ones you are going to and then you can be part of the conversation to arrange the best time for the majority of the group. We are trying to be as flexible as possible. you do not have to attend all the runs, but if you can't make it then you may find that someone else is able to run with you in the group or just do the run in your time.

Runs are Free. This course is co-funded by Bristol City Council and Bristol Girls Can.

(Please note that if you sign up after 4pm on Thursday you will not receive any communication before Monday)
