Read Write Count with the First Minister is a national campaign to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of Scotland’s children. As part of the campaign, every child in Primary 2-3 receives a free bag with books and activities to support their learning. It aims to build parents' confidence, and encourage families to include easy and fun reading, writing and counting activities in their everyday lives.
In this PL session we will share how the new 2025 Read Write Count book bags could be used for a mixed-level paired reading project. We will share good practice examples and explain how paired reading can help support reading for pleasure more generally. We will also highlight how our fantastic paired reading toolkit can support this activity.
NB: If you are working towards Reading Schools accreditation, engaging in a paired reading project can help meet Key Area 1.2.2 Learner Role Modelling of the Reading Schools Framework.
This session is suitable for those working with P2 and P3 pupils as well as those working at other stages who might want to run a paired reading project in partnership with P2 and P3 teachers. It will be held as a meeting on Microsoft Teams, with meeting details emailed close to the event.
