Event description
Learn how to run engaging and effective online meetings for your grassroots group, campaign or workplace.

About this Event

The COVID-19 pandemic has radically changed the context of our lives, work and social justice organising. Many of us have had to move our organising work online, and adapt rapidly. Mutual aid initiatives are doing incredible work while organising virtually, supporting those most affected by the crisis. Few of us have ever spent so much of our time in online meetings!

We have been running our ‘Running Great Online Meetings’ trainings since the beginning of the pandemic. Tripod are hosting the same training again, to share skills and resources around online facilitation and help make our online meetings more effective, inclusive and connecting.

For whom

Free/donation tickets are specifically aimed at mutual aid initiatives and grassroots social and environmental justice groups in Scotland and beyond.

We ask those of you working for funded NGOs, unions, workers’ cooperatives and other larger organisations, to sign up on a sliding scale based on organisational turnover. Please select this ticket option when you sign up. If your organisation has a large training budget, please support us to make our training accessible to others.

If you require an invoice in addition to the eventbrite receipt, please email info@tripodtraining.org.

About the workshop

This workshop is a starting place to gain immediate tips and tools for online facilitation, and learn about other training and resources available -whether you’re completely new to online facilitation or already have some experience.

We will cover:

  • Facilitation tools and techniques for interactive online meetings and workshops;
  • Accessibility and inclusivity in online meetings;
  • How to get the best out of Zoom.

In the first section we'll introduce online facilitation through a presentation and interactive exercises, followed by Q&A, so come prepared with questions and we'll cover as much as we can.

Feedback from previous participants:

"It was really useful! It was great just to experience as a participant all the different things you can do with zoom. It’s definitely given me the spark of inspiration I needed to overcome my trepidation about it and just want to figure it all out and give it a go." -Ellie Muniandy, Scottish Women's Aid

"The session was really useful, not just for online meetings but how to have good meetings in general. It has already helped us with some initial lockdown webinars for our members." -Olivia James, Organic Growers’ Alliance

Accessibility

The session will take place on Zoom and you’ll be able to join online for free, or call in with a mobile or landline phone, with your usual charges. We’ll be sharing slides, notes and resources afterwards, and while we’ll be using visuals during the session, having access to a screen is not essential.

If you’ve never tried Zoom before, we’ll make sure to send instructions beforehand and will also cover the basics during the call. If you have access to a laptop or tablet, we recommend you using that to make the most of this training.

Exchange We’re offering this workshop by donation as we don't want costs to be a barrier to anyone participating. If you’re able to contribute, any amount, this will support us to run more of these workshops for grassroots groups in the time ahead. You can donate by Paypal or a bank transfer.

About us

Tripod: Training for Creative Social Action builds the power of movements for social and environmental justice to confront the root causes of injustice and organise for collective liberation. We do this by working with grassroots collectives, campaigning groups, co-operatives, community groups and charities to help them become more effective and sustainable. We offer training, meeting facilitation and conflict mediation to support groups to work in better alignment with their visions and values. Our creative, participatory work is tailored to your group’s needs and ambitions so that you can build on your strengths, learn new skills and feel confident and ready for action.

If you want to stay in the loop, you can follow us on, Twitter and Facebook or sign up to our newsletter here.

You can find more information about our work on our website.
