Event description

Description

We don’t need to learn to run because we all did it as kids.
You need to learn to run ‘correctly’.
Only some people can run.

What if none of the above is entirely true?
What if most people can learn to run and runners can all improve at any stage - but not necessarily by following a specific set of rules?

Running is indeed a fundamental part of human functioning: it is not separate to the way we do anything else. But as humans, we are not all the same. We all stand, sit, walk, talk, gesture – and run - in our own unique ways. We began to develop habits and patterns right from birth, and while some contribute usefully to skills of many kinds, some may not be helpful. They are so deeply ingrained that mostly we don’t know what our habits are, or how to even start doing things differently - so just being taught ‘correct rules’ doesn’t always work.

The Feldenkrais Method is not a running technique as such so it doesn’t give you rules. It invites you to slow down and start to feel what you are actually doing. It can enable you to explore some of the patterns involved in running in different ways, to find out what is getting in the way of you improving and make new possibilities available so you can find it easier to start to run, or run further and faster, more economically and with less risk of injury.

In this workshop we will use floor work (‘Awareness Through Movement’) inside and a little bit of running in the outside space for you to try things out, apply what you learn and make comparisons. Running is complex, but we can cover some of the key issues of form such as whether foot strike matters, the contribution of the pelvis and the importance of running with the whole self.
It could be helpful to runners at any stage.

Beechwood Hall is a perfect venue for this workshop with views of the Downs, the large hall opens out onto the rural park.

This workshop is part of International Feldenkrais Week

FAQs

How much does it cost?

£50 for a five hour workshop including light refreshments.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Beechwood Hall is two miles north of Lewes, just off the A275 in the small village of Cooksbridge. The Hall and Park are accessed via the quiet Beechwood Lane which runs westward from the A275 approximately 100 yards from Cooksbridge Railway Station.

There is a car park immediately next to the Hall which can accommodate approximately 30 cars with 3 dedicated disabled bays adjacent to the Hall.

Unfortunately there is no public transport on Sundays, but you could get a taxi from Lewes Rail Station, and we could organise a lift back.

What can I bring into the event?

Please bring a mat and wear comfortable clothes you can easily move in. If you would like to bring a picnic lunch to have before the workshop there are picnic tables in the grounds.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please contact Rebecca Meitlis on 07595543605 or rebecca@inspiring-connections.co.uk
