Autumn full-day intensive: ‘Interwoven’Sat 25th October, 10am-4pm
Develop your creative writing practice, or try something new, with Rupture’s creative writing autumn intensive.
This full-day event will be hosted by Rupture’s Dr Anna Johnson and will also feature a workshop and talk by special guest, poet and lecturer Emma Filtness.Through readings and a range of creative writing exercises, we’ll explore how histories interweave themselves into our present (and into our writing), how texts speak to and through one-another, and how what we read becomes a part of our writing voice. We’ll draw on texts ranging from the novel Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, to nature writing by Hannah Hindley and poetry by Sati Mookherjee. As part of the day, guest tutor Emma Filtness will host a Woven Poems workshop. In this gentle, tactile workshop we’ll explore the potential of weaving for making visual poems, drawing on techniques and terminology from weaving and collage to guide our practice. A range of source texts will be provided, but feel free to bring along text and other papers you’re keen to work with - pages from a favourite novel, old receipts etc.We can’t wait to welcome you to this day of weaving our stories and nurturing creative connections!
About Emma: Emma Filtness is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Brunel University London. She works primarily in found and visual poetics. Her woven poem, sparkles of time, is out now as a limited edition print with Oo Press.
