In this workshop we'll explore writing created through engaging with works of art (from painting to literature), known as ekphrastic writing. This practice moves beyond the descriptive to create its own world in response to an artwork. Together, we will look at examples of ekphrastic literature, including poetry by WH Auden. We will work through short writing exercises (drawing on RuptureXIBIT's wonderful collection of art books!) to explore how this technique can help us develop our own writing voice.
Join writers Anna Johnson for an afternoon of experimental writing workshops, readings and discussion that will help you open out your writing practice to new possibilities, or get you started if you are new to writing.
Suitable for both experienced and brand-new writers. We will offer a nurturing, non-judgemental space in which to take chances and find ways to inspire and enliven your practice.
Anna will draw on their own practices, as published writers of poetry and fiction, to guide you through exercises designed to open out your practice to new ways of thinking and working.
There will be opportunities (but no pressure!) to share and discuss the work you produce during the workshops.
