Event description

Description

Help to uncover new information about the fascinating history and landscape development of the area through a programme of surveys, research, excavation, interpretation and conservation management works. There is at least 1,217 hectares of woodland that has not yet been surveyed. We are working with landowners and volunteers to identify and record the location and condition of archaeological features.

By volunteering with us you will work in the Rusland Horizons scheme area; develop an understanding of archaeology and historic environment; develop survey and archaeological practice skills; gain knowledge of conservation practices and gain knowledge and experience to help with achieving accredited qualifications if you so desire.

Please bring warm and waterproof clothing, sturdy footwear and a packed lunch including drinks. The surveys will involve walking over rough, uneven and sometimes steep ground so you must be physically able and fully mobile to take part.

Please check the FAQs for more information including how to find out where to meet.

FAQs

Which woodland and where to meet?

It is impossible to guess how long each woodland is going to take to survey so we will need to be flexible to complete the work. Communication and information about the venue will be through the use of an online blog. The NAA team will post all the information you need regarding the woodland, the parking and any other information you need here:www.rusland-woodland-survey.blogspot.com

Information will be available the night before you are volunteering. You should also check the blog for the final site information at 08.30 in the morning of the day that you are volunteering. If you have any problems on the day please call the NAA team Clare Henderson (archaeologist on site): 07715 005 205, Penny Middleton (NAA Project Manager): 07855 326 529: NAA Office: 01833 690 800
