Event description

Description

A wooden hay rake is an iconic rural tool and perfect accompaniment to the scythe when managing wildflower meadows. On this workshop you will learn to split and shape the components for lightness and strength using an axe, drawknife and some specialised tools to make a balanced and ergonomic rake. No previous experience necessary.

Please Note: £10 for materials should be brought to the course and paid to the trainer on the day.

Tutor Steve Tomlin has made a name for himself in the scything and greenwood world. This is a rare chance to learn a time honoured skill and help keep these beautiful tools from disappearing.

Meal breaks: Please bring a packed lunch and a flask.

What to wear: Stout boots and warm, waterproof clothes.

Age Limit: Courses are designed for 18years and over.

If you are under 18, please contact us on rusland.horizons@lakedistrict.gov.uk to discuss other opportunities.
