So please join us for the event initially planned for March on "Sustainable Energy for Communities," to hear about different ways of accessing renewable energy. This month we will be looking at the issue from both local and global perspective.
How does ‘renewable’ or ‘sustainable’ energy looks like on a global scale; what does it look like in the UK, and how can we get renewable energy as well as energy-efficiency in our homes and communities?
Our first speaker Lauren Uba from PPL PWR, educational collective whose aim is to promote sustainable technologies and innovations, will talk about decentralised grassroots community energy initiatives, that operate from the local level within the civil society and involve networks of local actors (i.e. local campaigns and training for energy reduction; neighbourhood installation of solar panels or community-owned energy co-ops).
Our second speaker Paulina Lis - Program Manager, Private Building Efficiency at C40 Cities will share her knowledge and expertise in supporting city efforts to improve the energy efficiency of existing commercial and residential buildings. C40 cities from all around the globe that participate in the Private Building Efficiency Network prioritise three focus areas, these are: data for policy, residential Buildings, deep retrofit, as well as commercial buildings.

About organisations:
PPL PWR is a collective of university graduates and students celebrating their research in the area of sustainable technology and innovation. The aim of the collective is to inform and inspire people to engage with this research and create a space for both individuals and groups to share knowledge with each other. We also provide opportunities for those involved to demonstrate and educate the public in a fun and engaging manner at festivals and other events. We exist to create a greener world through the power of knowledge.
Around the world, C40 Cities connects 94 of the world’s greatest cities to take bold climate action, leading the way towards a healthier and more sustainable future. Representing 700+ million citizens and one quarter of the global economy, mayors of the C40 cities are committed to delivering on the most ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement at the local level, as well as to cleaning the air we breathe. The Private Building Efficiency (PBE) Network is one of the many initiatives within C40, created to support city efforts to improve the energy efficiency of existing commercial and residential buildings.
