About this event

Reet Good Wood CIC is a creative space specifically for Neurodivergent adults who have had a late diagnosis, are waiting for a diagnosis or are not seeking one but identify as being neurodivergent. For people who have 'managed' to get through life without any kind of peer support - this space is for you. Unfortunately we do not meet criteria for formal support but being around other people like you can be massively beneficial.

Ruth, who runs Reet Good Wood, offers this 'have a go' workshop at her studio on Floor 5 of Spinners Mill in Leigh

Ruth says...

"Being Neurodivergent has many challenges. It can be quite isolating at times and some people often feel misunderstood, like they don’t ’fit in’ and can struggle to thrive in a world suited to neurotypical people. Last year I found my calm in the chaos that goes on in my brain as a neurodivergent adult. I found this sense of calm by Upcycling wooden furniture and making things out of wood. It gave me an outlet and massively improved my mental health and emotional wellbeing. So, I thought, why not share it with other Neurodivergent adults!? There is very little peer support out there when you're waiting for a diagnosis and very little afterwards, and although some people might not need it, for others being around other neurodivergent people can help massively. It can give a sense of belonging, provide a safe space to be your authentic self, in a space where you don’t have to worry about being judged or mistreated."

In this session you get to have a go at an activity we feel is really beneficial to our health. We have wood, tools, and space to share. We're asking for a £10 ticket contribution to cover some of the operational costs incurred.

This workshop is for adults of any gender identity, who consider themselves to be neurodivergent. You do need to be able to work independently as you will be expected to be able to work unsupervised (this is not 1-1 tuition), to keep yourself safe and to be able to use power tools

Group size is limited to 6 places. Demand for these sessions is quite high so if you cannot make it please cancel your booking in advance to allow other people to book. It also means we can plan and prepare for the right amount of attendees. If you want a video or any more information about the workshop space, or want to visit first - that can be arranged. Drinks, biscuits and great company all included.

These sessions are located in a workshop environment so please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty / paint on. Please arrive on time to start at 11:30am.

NB. This session is not therapy, counselling or 1-1 tuition. But a group of likeminded people sharing a creative space to have a go at making rustic trees from reclaimed wood.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a lift?

The lift does work but is very old - there are instructions on how to use it inside the lift but you will be provided with more details nearer to the date of the event

Is there anywhere to buy food?

The Mill is home to lots of small businesses. We do not provide lunch but you can bring your own, or you can access the Cafe within the Computer Museum on Floor 4.

Organized by

We offer workshops for Neurodivergent Adults and on occasion open our doors to the general public for various workshops throughout the year. Ticket sales for our workshops are reinvested back in to the project to cover operational costs and continue to offer a peer led supportive and creative space for the Neurodivergent adult community.
