Event description

Description

This conference entitled, ‘Rwandan Perspectives on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Sustainable Peace: Enhancing Research, Influencing Policy’, aims to create a global platform for critical debates on law, society and policy in post-genocide Rwanda. The debates will be driven by Rwandan scholars and addressed to international donors, academics and opinion leaders, thus shifting global knowledge flows, drawing on Rwandan expertise to inform international policymaking.

The event will be hosted in London on 30 and 31 May 2018 and will showcase the work of Rwandan researchers who over the last three years have been mentored through the Research, Policy and Higher Education (RPHE) programme at the Aegis Trust in Kigali. Co-hosted by the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London, the Aegis Trust and the Department of Politics and International Studies at SOAS, the conference will feature 12 Aegis-commissioned Rwandan authors who will present their research on various issues concerning post-genocide Rwanda, including identity formation, intergenerational shame and trauma, gender and land reform, intra-family conflicts and education as a means of speaking across social divides.

This event is public, with registration required. Since 2015, the RPHE programme has been funded by the UK Department for International Development (DfID) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). This conference has been made possible with support from the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London; the Department of Politics and International Studies, SOAS; DfID; and the Aegis Trust.
