A national RYA event offering free, short ‘have a go’ sailing taster sessions. We plan 30 minute rowing and sailing sessions on the estuary. Allow an hour with check-in, briefing and debriefing. Open to able-bodied first time and lapsed boaters of all ages. Bring a change of clothes plus wellies or old shoes and come prepared to get you and your feet a bit wet.
Bring Your Own BBQ in the park for sailors and landlubbers. You bring the food and drink.We provide the charcoal and matches.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
ID if under 25. If under 18 you must be accompanied in the boat by an adult.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
1. Train to Alnmouth and X18 bus or walk.
2. X18 bus (hourly) from Newcastle, Alnwick, Morpeth, Seahouses, Berwick etc.
3. Drive and park on Riverside Road (if it's not too busy).
What can I bring into the event?
Anything that you can leave ashore. No valuables on boat.
Are Pets Allowed?
No, not on boats or in Pease's Park where dogs are specifically prohibited. People may wish to exercise dogs on the adjacent public beach but the space will be somewhere restricted due to tides.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, You will also be asked to sign a registration form.
Can I update my registration information?
Is my registration ticket transferrable?
No. The name must be your own. Cancel and rebook. The tickets are free and there is no penalty.
Is disabled access available?
There is no provision for such access to the boats. Wheelchairs have been used in the adjacent Pease's Park where the BBQ takes place. This is a public park and beyond our control.
What kinds of boats are used?
There will be a range of sailing and rowing boats, some with motors. Most take the skipper and one or two crew. Where possible, we will allocate you to a boat type which matches your Boating Preference on the booking form.
