Speaker - KATH WALSH from FoodCycle

While there is food waste, there should not be food poverty but these issues seem far from being fixed. The Guardian (May 2016) reports around 8 million people in the UK live in households that struggle to put enough food on the tableThe Co-op and British Red Cross Report 2016 says almost 20% of the British population state tehy are always or often lonely. And the WRAP report 2016 tell us 10 million tonnes of food is wasted in teh UK a year, around 60% of which could have been avoided.

There is some good news! FoodCycle, a community organisation that loves food, cooking and strengthening communities by bringing people together over a tasty, nutritious 3-course vegetarian meal, rescued in one year alone, 100 tonnes of surplus food going in the bin - the equivalent in weight of 20 hippos!

Join us to hear Kath, a newly adopted daughter of Sheffield, tell us how she gave up her busy, sometimes stressful, sometimes lonely life in London and come to the healing city of Sheffield in search of a slower-paced, more meaningful life and found it among the people she met and friends she made at FoodCycle.
