Workshop on

Safe and Trustworthy Autonomous Assistive Robots (STAARs)

Intellectual Challenges and STAARs Research Agenda

Wednesday, 6th February 2013, 11:30 - 18:00

Thursday, 7th February 2013, 8:30 - 14:00

University of Bristol, School of Experimental Psychology
Room 2D17 (Staff Common Room), 12A Priory Road, Bristol BS8 1TU

*** Please report to reception on arrival who will take you to the workshop location. ***

Objective: The objective of the STAARs workshops is to establish new collaborations and to shape an interdisciplinary research agenda that addresses the ethical, societal, legal and engineering challenges in developing autonomous assistive robots.

The STAARS workshops bring together a set of researchers from diverse backgrounds with a common interest in robotics. Participation at these workshops is expected to spark a major new initiative on Safe and Trustworthy Autonomous Assistive Robots at the University of Bristol and beyond.

This 2nd workshop is focused on identifying Intellectual Challenges that give rise to a new multi-disciplinary research agenda towards safe and trustworthy autonomous assistive robots. The challenges identified will feed into a draft position paper on the state of the art. We will aim to set up a small number of collaborative “seed” research projects for participants to work together in order to address some of the Intellectual Challenges identified.

Please note that places are limited and refreshments/lunch can only be provided for registered attendees. Registration will close 2 days before the STAARs Workshop. Please register asap. Thank you.
