Description

This training session has been developed to provide you with the essential knowledge required to safely conduct conscious sedation. The training will cover the following:

  • What is conscious sedation?
  • National (AoMRC), GSTT and specialty guidelines
  • Conscious sedation drugs
  • Patient assessment, including when to seek advice or refer
  • Intravenous conscious sedation and analgesia
  • Recognition and management of complications, including failed sedation
  • Role and responsibilities
  • Audit and adverse event reporting
  • Supervised clinical experience
  • Registration of sedationists
  • Airway management (practical)
  • MCQ (single best answer) paper

It is very important that you read the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trusts guidelines before attending, these will be provided to you once you have registered.
