About this event

This year’s FNHC Moving & Handling update concentrates on the use of hoists which has become an integral part of delivering health and social care services.

Each year a significant number of incidents are reported in which people have been injured while being moved using hoisting equipment.

By the end of the session the trainee should be able to

· demonstrate checks required prior to use of hosts and slings.

· identify the types of hoist available, and describe the safe use of hoists

· identify the types of sling available, and describe the safe use of slings

· Explain how the person’s needs / conditions can affect safe hoisting eg awareness and co-operation, communication, restlessness, etc

· identify unsafe practices and explain why these should not be used

· Demonstrate competence undertaking hoisting activities and safe use of equipment

Our Education and Development Team builds on our island wide reputation of providing professional care and services to members of our community who need healthcare or support. Our team are from a wide range of professional backgrounds including Adult and Children’s Nursing, Specialist Nursing, Health Visiting and Safeguarding. Courses are easy to access and run throughout the year.
