Safe Space Pledge Training – 16 Days of Activism Special Session

Delivered by Equation, Nottingham’s specialist provider of sexual violence and domestic abuse training, this session is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. It is open to partner agencies and aims to equip professionals working in Nottingham’s day and night-time economy with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to incidents of violence and abuse against women and girls.

Training Objectives:

Participants will gain awareness and practical tools around:

  • Recognising harassment, violence and abuse in public spaces and venues — whether from strangers, acquaintances, or intimate partners.
  • Understanding consent, sexual harassment, and inappropriate behaviour, including incidents involving staff.
  • Challenging myths and stereotypes that perpetuate gender-based violence.
  • Bystander intervention techniques to safely challenge predatory or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Creating safer spaces for both staff and customers.
  • Accessing support and specialist services for victims.
  • Implementing the Safe Space Pledge to foster a culture of safety and respect.

About the Campaign:

The 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign running from 25th of November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10th of December (Human Rights Day). It highlights the urgent need to end gender-based violence, one of the most persistent and devastating human rights violations globally

In this session you will:

  • Recognise when harassment, violence, or abuse may occur—whether from strangers, acquaintances, or intimate partners.
  • Extend this understanding to men who may experience sexual violence or harassment.
  • Challenge myths, stereotypes, and judgemental attitudes.
  • Practise effective responses, including bystander intervention techniques.
  • Learn how to direct those affected to appropriate support services.
  • Discover how to create a safer environment within your venue.
  • Deepen your understanding of the Safe Space Pledge and its standards.
