The Learning outcomes are as follows:


By the end of the course those attending will be able to

  • Identify the Designated Safeguarding Officer roles and responsibilities.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Officer/Lead in the organisation in which the Candidate is being placed.
  • Identify legislation, statutory guidance, policies and procedures which enable the DSO to manage safeguarding and allegations within the agency and within the organisation in which the candidate is placed.
  • Describe key elements of safeguarding and what the DSO’s role is in reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns raised by the Consultant, Candidate and Client.
  • Implement best practice around confidentiality, information sharing and recording
  • Understand the importance of staff and candidate welfare; and self-care
  • Have had time for questions and discussions (particularly through scenario based exercises)
