Overview

South East Regional Organised Crime Unit: Safeguarding Against Child Financial Exploitation.

Please note this training is for attendees in the HIPS (Hampshire) area.

SEROCU Economic Crime Prevent team, working with key partner agencies, aim to deter young people from getting involved in economic crime, diverting those on the cusp of economic criminality and reducing the chances of reoffending by delivering interventions proportionate to the risk the individual poses. We focus on education and diversion for young people who may deliberately or inadvertently stray into economic offending.

The session is for professionals working with young people who may be at risk of child financial exploitation, colloquially and historically referred to as ‘money muling’. We will aim to increase your understanding of this emerging economic crime, which overwhelmingly affects young people, whilst raising awareness of the Economic Crime Prevent team and ultimately, how we can help you to comply with your safeguarding obligations.

The session covers:

  • Child financial exploitation – what is it?
  • The relationship between young people and financial exploitation
  • Risk indicators
  • Safeguarding obligations under KCSiE
  • What the SEROCU Economic Crime Prevent team do and how to make a referral

Teams link and relevant course materials will be sent to registered emails prior to the training date.
