*The course would be suitable for childminders however 'Safeguarding Children: Childminder Designated Safeguarding Lead' would be much more suitable for all experienced Childminders.
Delegates will receive email communication from the trainer one week before the course and must complete:
- Part 1 - Online Learning (approx 3 hours)
Part 1 includes video presentation, reading materials, interactive activities, quizzes and an opportunity for Q&A.
PART 1 MUST BE COMPLETED FIRST
- Part 2 – Face to Face (3 hours)
Part 2 will take place on Thursday 16 October 2025 (9.30am - 12.30pm)
Following the successful completion of Part 1 and attendance at Part 2 your Certificate will be issued

Aims and Objectives:
This course provides staff with the opportunity to explore and understand the role, responsibilities and legal duties of the Designated Safeguarding Lead within Early Years settings, and to support the development of the necessary skills and competencies to fulfil the role.
This course introduces the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead and supports the development of the skills and competencies necessary to fulfil the role. It approaches the theme from a practical perspective; encouraging participants to apply the content to their own situation throughout and drawing on lessons from real life examples and serious case reviews.
It supports the development of the necessary skills and competencies to effectively fulfil the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead as defined in the Leicestershire & Rutland Safeguarding Board’s (LSCB) Competency Framework. The trainer is an experienced safeguarding lead who has worked within a range of sectors and has also held allegations management responsibilities. All of this experience is brought into the training, dealing with the complexities of the role and of multi- agency working in a practical and down to earth manner.
Learning outcomes:
To understand the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead; its responsibilities and statutory duties in EYFS, legislation and guidance.
• To support development of the skills and knowledge to confidently and competently manage safeguarding issues; identifying and assessing need, taking appropriate action, sharing information and contributing fully to the multi-agency safeguarding and allegations management processes.
• To understand and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to lead on safeguarding issues and to support staff within the setting in the discharge of their legal duties.
• To understand the importance of the organisations policies, procedures and systems and to develop the skills and confidence to challenge practice and shape the culture to safeguard children & staff.
• To understand current local and national agendas and to recognise the significance of emerging trends and issues on an ongoing basis.
