Safeguarding Children: Essential Safeguarding Awareness
Live Event Training - Tuesday 25 November 2025 (6.30pm - 9.30pm)
For: Universal* - this course is only available to staff or volunteers working in a registered childcare provision operating in Leicestershire
*This course is suitable for childminders and prospective childminders who have not previously undertaken any Safeguarding CPD training, however following first time attendance on this course Childminders should then attend 'Safeguarding Children: Childminder Designated Safeguarding Lead' as this course covers the role of Childminders as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Newly registered Childminders following certification of essential awareness should contact eytraining@leics.gov.uk for a £10 discount code to book onto the Designated Safeguarding Lead training', the DSL training should be completed within 3 months of completing childminder registration.
This course is being offered at the highly subsidised rate to acknowledge and support your current potential financial issues.
Delegates will receive email communication from the trainer one week before the course and must complete:-
- Part 1 - Online Learning (approx 3 hours)
Part 1 includes video presentation, reading materials, interactive activities, quizzes and an opportunity for Q&A.
PART 1 MUST BE COMPLETED FIRST
- Part 2 – Zoom Face to Face Webinar (3 hours)
Part 2 will take place on Tuesday 25 November 2025 (6.30pm - 9.30pm)
Following the successful completion of Part 1 and attendance at Part 2 your Certificate will be issued.

Leicestershire County Council’s Early Years Inclusion and Childcare Service recommends for best practice that all Leicestershire Early Years Providers and Practitioners including Childminders and Out of School Clubs follow and adhere to The Safeguarding Children Competency Framework
The session includes:
- the basic legislation within which children’s welfare is safeguarded
- some influences on your judgements about child welfare concerns
- how to identify concerns about children and young people in order to safeguard and promote their welfare including those who are suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm
- what you may see or hear that would make you worried about the child’s welfare
- a range of responses when a concern is identified including when and how information can be shared
- the processes to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
