Description

Aim: to provide participants with an understanding of the increased risk of abuse the dying child is faced with and to outline the difficulties associated with safeguarding children and young people in the context of end of life care.



Objectives:

1. Be aware of the research and evidence base in relation to the dying child and safeguarding.

2. Understand how end-of-life care can compromise a child or young person’s safety.

3. Consider the difficulties associated with assessment and end-of0life care.

4. Be aware of the legal framework which protects dying children and young people from abuse and discrimination.

5. Develop an awareness of specific individual and organisational responsibilities to safeguard dying children.

6. Have the knowledge to work to reduce the barriers that exist in effectively protecting dying children.

7. Feel confident in communicating effectively with a child or young person who is dying.
