Event description

Description

Safeguarding Children: Management Responsibilities

For: Leaders, Managers, Childminders* and Committee Members

Level: Advanced

Course length: 1 day

This training supports Leicestershire's LSCB competency group 6

*The course would be suitable for childminders if they employ assistants.

This training supports the owner, manager or committee member to fulfil their leadership role.

The training recognises the important role that parents, children, other professionals and key people play in the safeguarding of children through information sharing and referral.

Leicestershire County Council’s Early Learning and Childcare Service recommends for best practice that all Leicestershire Early Years Providers and Practitioners including Childminders and Out of School Clubs follow and adhere to The Safeguarding Children Competency Framework

The Competency Framework recommends that training/learning is attended every three years (minimum), and, best practice would be for this to be multi-agency training. As well as meeting the competencies within the Framework, attending multi-agency training will support with learning, networking and will allow organisations to better understand the roles of partner agencies. This particularly applies to those who carry out safeguarding assessments and investigations.

The Competency Framework acknowledges that in addition to traditional training events, there are different ways of learning and developing. Whilst training activities help to provide the knowledge and skills that contribute to staff being able to meet their competencies. Attending a training course does not automatically mean that the competencies will have been met - discussion and verification after the event may be required.

This training aims to:

  • Ensure safe working practices and safer recruitment procedures are effective

  • Show the importance of supervision to support safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • Clearly describe Leicestershire safeguarding children board policies and procedures including the safeguarding competency framework

  • Explain how lessons learned from serious case reviews inform practice

  • Explore the necessity for information sharing, confidentiality and good record keeping

  • Examine multi-agency working and effective communication
