Course Introduction

This course is designed to enhance your knowledge and understanding of changes in Children’s in behaviour and links to mental health needs and in some cases, can be an indicator that a child has suffered or is at risk of suffering abuse, neglect or exploitation.

  • Understand the meaning of Safeguarding Children with mental health problems
  • Be aware of Key legislation and guidance and resources available
  • Learn five key outcomes to maintaining good mental health
  • Staff to be given practical tools to help young people maintain good mental health
  • Explore and discover applicable practices to encourage good mental health in school and at home
  • Be aware, mental health problems can in some cases be an indicator that a child has suffered or is at risk of suffering abuse, neglect or exploitation
  • Recognising Un-Conscious Bias and the relationship to Safeguarding Children
  • Explain the significance of good communication skills and responding to mental health concerns
  • Understand Adverse childhood Experiences(ACE’S) and other events that may have an impact on children
  • Be aware of the importance of Safeguarding Supervision

Course Description

This course is designed to help staff and organisations understand and support children whose mental health problems manifest themselves in behaviour.

The course is designed to help staff recognise their existing roles and responsibilities in relation to promoting good mental health and wellbeing whilst understanding the link between mental health and behaviour.

The course explores disruptive, withdrawn, anxious, depressed or otherwise- maybe related to a mental health problem and how to support them in these circumstances.

This course will also focus on prevention, identification, early support and access to specialist support.

Certain individuals and groups are more at risk of developmental mental heath problems than others, the course will explore the risk factors that can relate to the child themselves, to their family or their community or life events
