Safeguarding Children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities

About this event
Children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities are particularly vulnerable to issues around Safeguarding. This training is ideal for DSLs with specific responsibility for SEND, whether that is in a mainstream or specialist provision.
Developed and delivered by Kate Taylor, Schools Safeguarding's SEND Specialist Consultant, the course looks at:
- Identifying barriers and vulnerabilities children with SEND face, including examples of Serious Case Reviews that have involved children with SEND
- Specific forms of abuse that children with SEND are more vulnerable to
- The impact of Covid on safeguarding children with SEND
- Developments within national policy and guidance
- Review of the school policy and procedures to include:
- Range of school specific policies in relation to safeguarding children with Send
- Responsibility for safeguarding children with SEND (Governance, Headteacher, DSL, SENDCO, all staff)
- Staff training and CPD
- Enhanced pastoral support for children with SEND
- Curriculum accessibility
- Practical ways to reduce barriers and vulnerabilities
- Supporting children and families, including capturing the child's voice in assessments plans and records
This training is currently available online via Zoom at a cost of £75 per person.
