Safeguarding for Supervisors of Therapists
Overview
It is for anyone (including trainees) in a supervisory role of therapists or thinking about becoming a supervisor of therapists. You can be in private practice or employed by an organisation. This session complements my previous safeguarding training, grounded in systemic joined up thinking, but also can be attended as a stand-alone session if you can have completed safeguarding training elsewhere.
For those who have attended previous sessions, this is new content builds upon your existing knowledge of child and adult safeguarding legislation and practice.
What will we cover?
- Recap on what is safeguarding and your legal and ethical responsibilities.
- Explore what is safeguarding for supervisors and why is it different.
- Understand and clarify your roles and responsibilities, and those of your supervisee.
- Identify red flags with supervisees and supervisor blind spots
- Understand the difference between risk in the room and risk in the system.
- Applying learning to case studies
- The Supervisors Safeguarding Toolkit – questions, prompts, contracting and when to escalate.
How is it delivered?
The session is delivered over Zoom, with a mixture of informative presentation, small and large group discussions and opportunities for questions and reflections.
Groups are small (Maximum 14 participants) and provide a safe space to explore safeguarding with other therapists.
