Event description

Description

This course is the Church of England's "S1" safeguarding module and looks at statutory guidance and legislation in relation to safer recruitment. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the Church of England’s safer recruitment procedures and increase their confidence in carrying out the safer recruitment process in a local context and in relation to roles involving working with children and vulnerable adults.

As stipulated by the House of Bishops and outlined in the safeguarding practice guidance produced by the Church of England, the S1 module is essential training for people holding any of the following roles or positions:

- Those with responsibility for administering DBS;
- Clergy and those with recruitment responsibilities (for example designated members of the PCCs or members of staff who regularly sit on interview panels);
- Senior staff where they are involved in recruitment;
- Safeguarding leads on PCC/within Religious Communities/within TEIs; and
- Diocesan/Parish/Cathedral safeguarding officers.

The safeguarding practice guidance suggests that is desirable training for the following:

- Anyone involved in the recruitment of church officers, paid and unpaid, ordained and lay.

Alongside our trainer, Simon Bass of Church Safeguarding Consultancy, this training will be supported by a member of the Diocesan Safeguarding Team.

Attendees will need nothing more than themselves to take part. The training is free to all.
