This mini conference will provide attendees with up to date information from the latest research on antipsychotic safety in dementia and the tools to incorporate this into clinical decision making. This includes new data from a Brunel University London NIHR-funded project examining the influence of patient cardiovascular disease history on risperidone safety in dementia. Attendees will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on a draft of a new decision aid based on these data.

There will be four talks (~20 mins plus ~10 min Q&A) following by a workshop.

Objectives

· To explore non-pharmacological interventions for managing behavioural and psychological symptoms in dementia

· To understand patient, clinician, and carer perspectives on antipsychotic use and the effective communication of associated side effect risks

· To assess evidence around safer antipsychotic prescribing practices, including the influence of cardiovascular history on stroke risk and appropriate clinical indications
