Safer Communities Dialogue (Part 2): Turning Words Into Action
Overview
Add your voice to this meaningful dialogue on how to make the UK hate-free for all. Part of the Safer Communities Project.
The UK is facing a sharp rise in hate crimes, particularly targeting religious and ethnic minorities. In Greater Manchester alone, incidents have increased by 20% since 2021. The recent attack on a Manchester synagogue, which claimed two lives, highlights the urgent need for youth-led education, dialogue, and cooperation to build safer, more united cities.
Youth Empowerment & Peace Working Group (YEPW) is an initiative of the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) — a global youth organisation working with over 1,000 partner groups in 119 countries to promote community-based peacebuilding and inclusion.
This autumn, IPYG UK is hosting YEPW dialogues across the UK, creating a shared platform for young people, educators, and civic partners to tackle the root causes of hate and violence.
Following October’s nationwide youth dialogue on hate crime, this second session brings together young leaders, educators, NGOs, and civic partners to explore how peace education can turn dialogue into action for safer, more united communities across the UK.
Building our momentum
In October 2025, over 60 participants from 10 UK cities and 11 London boroughs joined the first Safer Communities Dialogue, uniting youth voices, educators, and civic leaders to address rising hate crime and community division.
Now, we’re meeting again: stronger and more focused.
What to expect
This follow-up dialogue will move from discussion to demonstration - showing how peace education actually works in practice as a practical dialogue tool.
Together, we’ll explore how skills like listening, empathy, and civic dialogue can strengthen safety, trust, and cooperation in our own communities.
We’ll also open registration for the UK-tailored Peace Education Pilot Programme launching January 2026, which will include government, education, and NGO partners.
