Course Title: Safer Engagement with Perpetrators

Trainer: Julia Worms - Sherwood Associates

Course Outline

This course follows on from the half day Understanding Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse and should be completed after completion of the entry level course. The half day is a skills building and practice development session, which facilitates safer engagement with those who have issues in relation to their violent or abusive behaviour and ensures practice is non-collusive.

Learning Outcomes

Explore the range of presentation styles and discuss related issues

Employ safer strategies and a non-colluding approach

Explore safe, effective working practice in relation to perpetrator interventions

Provide effective referrals and sign-posting

Provide appropriate risk assessments

Explore safe, effective working practice in relation to perpetrator interventions

Audience

This course is suitable for all those who work within family settings e.g. Children’s Centres, Health Visitors, Social Workers, Family Intervention Projects, Substance Misuse Services, Community Mental Health & Housing Officers. Additionally those who want to complete the scope of domestic abuse awareness training or who may engage with perpetrators in their role should include this skills building practice.
