Fact 2: People are worried about applying and managing benefits online Government services are "digital by default" meaning services like the Universal Credit will primarily be done online. The government’s Digital Efficiency Report noted that digital transactions are 20 x cheaper than by phone, 30 x cheaper than by post and as much as 50 x cheaper than by face-to-face meetings, meaning that the government could save between £1.8bn each year if all transactions were done online.
