About this event

The course is split into two sections with the morning session focusing on offender behaviour and developing a safer culture within the workplace and the pm session focusing on safeguarding within the recruitment process.

The course must be attended in full as there is an assessment at the end of both the morning and afternoon session. All participants completing the assessment will receive a certificate reflecting this.

This course is now mandatory training for schools following recommendations 16 & 17 of the Bichard Inquiry.

This course contains some PowerPoint presentation(s), group work, audio transcript and case studies, in particular it covers:

• Scale of abuse.

• Characteristics of offender behaviour.

• Transcript of offender.

• Developing safe practices – an ongoing culture of vigilance.

• Action planning - a safer recruitment process, advertisement, application, references and short listing.

• Making the right decisions, planning interviews with a safeguarding remit and ensuring pre-employment checks.

Learning Outcomes

1. An understanding of offender behaviour

2. Awareness of the key features of staff recruitment that help to deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people

3. Considered relevant policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt recording

4. Considered your own organisations policies and practices with a view to making them safer

5. Developed confidence you are more able to practice safer recruitment
