About this event

Science & Tech • Other

Noting the industry forecasts on the uptake of future fuels with low to zero carbon emissions, ammonia has been identified as one of the frontrunners and relatively, on balance, is seen to have newer risks for the maritime industry such as toxicity and corrosiveness. This lecture will touch upon the various aspects, from an operational viewpoint, that need to be covered to ensure a safe application of ammonia as fuel on board ships.

Stephen Machado is a Lead Specialist in Regulatory Affairs at Lloyd’s Register, with more than two decades of maritime experience in different roles. Having been a sea-going engineer, a plan approval surveyor and a systems regulation specialist; Stephen was recently involved in managing a project which developed guidelines for SMS for ammonia fuelled ships.
