About this event

This free training has been fully funded by Kensington Chelsea and Westminster Public Health and is only available to those living or working in the areas.

This 2.5 hour online session gives you the skills and tools to support an individual to develop their own safety plan. It is suitable for anyone in a support role who has already taken one of our suicide awareness or alertness courses (or similar), and wants to gain further skills in suicide intervention.

Safety Plans take a person centred and stepped approach. They help us manage those fleeting thoughts of suicide that emerge at the edge of your mind – through to situations where the desire to die becomes so overwhelming you no longer think you can keep yourself safe. A Safety Plan includes what you would do, and who might support you, in a suicide crisis. Safety Plan elements include;

  • Identifying reasons for living
  • Making your situation safer
  • Recognising the warning signs
  • Understanding how to lift your mood
  • Identifying informal support
  • Using distractions
  • Getting professional support
