What You'll Learn
The Art of Raku is great fun and suitable for all levels of experience.
The morning starts from 11.00 with introductions pastries, cake and refreshments.
This workshop will introduce you to the process of Raku Saggar firing and the techniques of Horsehair/Feather Raku - all of which you will create.
You will be provided with two large bisque fired pots ready for your creativity these will be yours to take home and show off to your friends afterwards.
The Saggar firing technique - this involves wrapping various organic materials around a pot to create vivid bold natural colours. I will provide you with a vast of weird and wonderful things to add - but feel free to bring added items.
The Horsehair technique - You will be provided with a large 23cm high pot of which you will use various ways to capture the carbon from hair and natural feathers across onto a white porcelain pot. This is a exciting process and gives amazing outcomes. If you have any pets please feel free to bring their hair/feathers and capture your pets hair forever in this process. So far we have used the hair of ferrets, donkey, chickens, parrots, dogs and of course horses.
A hamper lunch is provided to suit your dietary requirements and favourites. We are very fortunate to be located in the beautiful location of Hall Farm Gardens with plenty of places to enjoy your hamper. The gardens have acres of wildflower meadows, a private moat, manicured gardens with sculptures- even a beehive.
This workshop is limited in participants per session to ensure high standards of tuition.
Hall Farm gardens is an open gardens venue with free access to explore during the day.
