Research has discovered (Elkins et al,, 2013), that hot flushes and night sweats can improve by at least 50% reduction using hypnosis with menopausal women. It was also reported that there is a substantial placebo effect in hot flush treatments which is one of the reasons why hypnosis is so important during this time. Changing our beliefs can change our experience and what happened to your mother will not necessarily happen to you. The study suggests that the cause may be due a decrease in our parasympathetic influence, as indicated by reductions in heart rate but all I know is that it works!
