About this event

We at Stewartby Water Sports Club (SWSC) are now offering taster sessions on Saturday mornings and afternoons for non-members. If you've ever wanted to try sailing before, this is an excellent opportunity to come along and speak to one of our experienced sailors in a small group of no more than 4. We will show you around a boat, answer your questions about sailing, and provide an opportunity to get on the water, weather permitting!

Booking Terms

By signing up to the event, you confirm that you have read and fully understand the Booking Terms below and have briefed others attending to ensure that all attendees comply with them.

If you book on behalf of a person under 18, you confirm that you are a parent or guardian of said person and that they may take part in the event. You also confirm that you have read through the below conditions with them and that they understand and agree with them. You also confirm that they take par in the event with your full agreement and that any details provided on their behalf are correct and complete in all respects.

Risk Statement

It must be recognised that sailing ism by its nature, an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the Taster Session , you agree and acknowledge that:

  1. You are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport of sailing and you accept responsibility of exposing yourself to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the Taster Session event;
  2. You will comply at all times with the instructions of the Taster Session oragniser and/or skipper of the boat, particularly with regard to instructions for boarding and leaving the boat and/or launching and recovery (as relevant), using the equipment on the boat and handling sails, wearing of bouyancy aids, life jackets, and the wearing of suitable clothing in particular footwear for the conditions;
  3. You accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by your own negligence;
  4. You will not participate in the Taster Session event whilst your ability to take part is impaired by alcohol, drugs, or whilst otherwise unfit to participate;
  5. The provision of supervision by the Taster Session organiser is limited to such assistance as can be practically be provided in the circumstances.

Tuition/Instruction

You understand that the Taster Session event is intended to give participants a chance to experience sailing. You will be offered the chance to take part in the activities under the guidance of a representative of the Taster Session organiser who has been assessed by the organiser as competent and sufficiently experienced to supervise your experience. These representatives may not be qualified instructors. The Taster Session is not intended to provide tuition or instruction.

The organiser very much hopes that you will enjoy the Taster Session and will be able to advise you on how to obtain tuition and instruction should you wish to take your experience to the next stage.

Cancellation

You understand that the Taster Session organiser may cancel or postpone the Taster Session at any stage in the event of bad weather, equipment failure, or otherwise. This ticket is not refundable unless an event is cancelled by the organiser, and cannot be exchanged, transferred, or resold for commercial gain. If the event is cancelled by the organiser, your ticket may be refunded or transferred to an alternative date and time of the same event.

Misconduct

You understand that the Taster Session organiser or the skipper of the vessel may ask anyone who refuses to comply with these conditions or who misconducts themselves in any way or who causes damage or annoyance to other persons to leave the event/vessel at a suitable opportunity.

Data Protection

The information given by you when booking onto this event, either by signing up online or at the event, may be used by us to process your attendance at the Taster Session event. We shall also include your name and address on our mailing list. If you would like to receive communications and details of our promotions, please opt-in when booking to attend the event.

Photography

We may take photographs and video footage of the Taster Session for us by us in connection with the promotion of us and our activities. If you are happy for us to do so, please opt-in when booking to attend the event.

General Conditions

  1. Visitors will not be allowed entry to the club without a a valid ticket.
  2. For the safety of the event, the organiser reserves the right to refuse admission and may, on occasions, conduct security checks
  3. Please check your ticket before you arrive. The organiser cannot be held liable for any mistake you have made by not checking your ticket.
  4. The organiser cannot accept financial or other responsibility for any loss or liability incurred by visitors to the event as a result of any contracts entered into while at the event.
  5. The organiser cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage to personal property while at the event.
  6. The sale of products or services at the venue by anyone else other than the organiser shall not be permitted unless prior agreement has been received by the organiser. The organiser reserves the right at their absolute discretion to confiscate any such items and refuse any services to take place for infringement of the condition.
  7. Pets are allowed at the event however they must be kept on leads at all times and will be refused entry to the clubhouse, with the exception of any assistance dogs. Pets will also not be allowed directly into the lake or in any craft which is afloat.
