We’re getting into the new year with something a little different on Church Street — a free Meet the Maker evening with the brilliant team behind Shogun Sakes, London’s craft sake brewery from Peckham. This is a relaxed, welcoming chance to chat directly with the people brewing some of the UK’s most exciting modern sakes.

You’ll taste their English-brewed sake and sake spritzers (all vegan, gluten-free and naturally low-sugar) while learning exactly how sake is brewed — and why, technically, it’s far closer to beer than wine. Expect an easy, informative look into koji, fermentation, polishing, and the creativity behind bringing sake into a new chapter in the UK.

Meet the Makers

Pete Troiano — Co-Founder | Sales & Marketing Director
Pete’s passion is getting people curious about sake. He brings a warm, down-to-earth approach to making sake feel accessible, familiar and fun, encouraging everyone to taste, talk and think differently.

Liam Wood — Head Brewer
Liam leads the brewing at Shogun with a mix of technical skill and deep curiosity. Previously Head Brewer at Umbrella Brewery, he trained in Japan at Okazaki and Daiman breweries and holds WSET Level 3 Sake. His philosophy: blend tradition with innovation to brew standout English sakes that help build a new UK sake culture.
