Event description
Salena Godden and Courttia Newland in Conversation

About this event

Two highly acclaimed, Newham based authors, Salena Godden and Courttia Newland discuss their latest works and all manner of things in this adult author event as part of Newham's Black History Month celebrations.

A recent writer for BBC's Small Axe series, Courttia Newland's latest Novel, A River Called Time, In A River Called Time Courttia imagines a world where colonialism and slavery never existed, and where African, rather than European, culture is dominant.

Salena Godden is known for her electrifying live performances everywhere from literary festivals to the Women’s March and Extinction Rebellion protests in Parliament Square, as well as her regular appearances on radio and TV.

Her latest book Mrs Death Misses Death sees it's main protagonist, Mrs Death who has had enough. She is exhausted from spending eternity doing her job and now she seeks someone to unburden her conscience to. Wolf Willeford, a troubled young writer, is well acquainted with death, but until now hadn’t met Death in person – a black, working-class woman who shape-shifts and does her work unseen.

Intrigued, why not come to the event and find out more....
