Event description

Description

Sally Waterman will be in Liddicoat & Goldhill Project Space at The Printworks Margate all afternoon on the final day of the exhibition - and at 2:30 will give an informal talk on her works 'In The Cage' and 'Sermon', introduced by the curator Lucy Howarth.

'Sally Waterman: In The Cage' is part of a bigger programme of events around Margate, responding to the 1922 poem by T.S. Eliot, 'The Waste Land', running in parallel with 'Journeys with The Waste Land’ at Turner Contemporary. Sally's works are featured in the Turner Contemporary exhibition, and were also in 'At The Violet Hour' at the Nayland Rock Hotel.

Sally has recently contributed a chapter to the book: 'Global Photographies: Memory, History, Archives'
eds. Sissy Helff and Stefanie Michels. 'Re-imagining the Family Album through Literary Adaptation', analyses the 'PastPresent' (2005) photographs and the 'Fortune-telling/Re-telling' (2007) and 'The Deep Sea Swell' (2009) videos from her 'Waste Land' project (the former currently on display at Turner Contemporary). Sally's photograph 'Past Present No.7' is featured on the front cover. The chapter is based on part of Sally's practice-based PhD research, which was later developed for a paper at the 'How History Enters Photography' symposium held at the Goethe University of Frankfurt, Germany, in June 2012.

The book is available as a free PDF download: https://www.transcript-verlag.de/en/978-3-8376-3006-0/global-photographies/
